The Harvard Data Science Initiative is delighted to announce that the next speaker in our Data Science in Industry seminar series will be Eric Ma of Novartis. Eric's talk, titled "One path to data science" will go through his personal journey to data science from his time as a graduate student at MIT. He will also speak on what skills he believes are useful for an aspiring data scientist to pick up and learn, with examples on their usefulness at work.

Eric Ma is an Investigator at the Novartis Institutes for Biomedical Research. Prior to that, he was a Health Data Fellow at Insight Data Science, and obtained his Doctor of Science from the Department of Biological Engineering at MIT, where he studied influenza evolution and ecology. In his final years of graduate school, he picked up the foundations of deep learning through collaborations with the Harvard Intelligent and Probabilistic Systems group, and has used his knowledge to write bespoke, pedagogically-oriented deep learning frameworks for himself and colleagues. At Novartis, he helps colleagues solve biology and chemistry problems at scale.
