Torey Lawrence currently serves as the Deputy Chief of Staff for USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS). NASS is one of three statistical agencies in USDA and publishes more than 400 reports each year on topics including (but not limited to): commodity supply and production, prices received, prices paid, agricultural labor, chemical use, farm finances, demographics and more.
Torey began his USDA career in 2000, working at the World Agricultural Outlook Board (under the Office of the Chief Economist). In 2006, he started his career with NASS in the North Carolina Field Office. Torey then transferred to Washington, DC in 2012 to serve as a Survey Administrator in NASS’s Census and Survey Division. In 2015, he became Section Head of the Environmental and Economic Surveys Section, the position he held prior to becoming Deputy Chief of Staff.
Torey holds a Bachelor of Science in Agribusiness Management and a Master of Science in Agricultural Economics from the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore.
